Youth Leadership Beckley

Through our partnership with Leadership Beckley we are building a resource page for Youth Leadership Opportunities in our area of Southern West Virginia.  Together we want to give area youth every opportunity that we can to teach about resources that are available to help them grow as great leaders for themselves and others.

We will be updating this Youth Leadership Resource Page often with information about area programs that are available to our youth for leadership development.  If you know of or have a Youth Leadership Program that you would like to list here please contact BRCCC at 304-252-7328 or email chamber@brccc.com

ABOUT LEADERSHIP BECKLEY

Leadership Beckley is a multi-week program sponsored by Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce. This program was established to develop the leadership potential of selected individuals and prepare them for greater civic responsibility and involvement. This program provides a forum for future leaders to develop and connect in the Beckley-Raleigh County community and beyond.

Now that the 20221 class has graduated there is a group of around 100 members ready and willing to be involved in leading our community into the future. Some past graduates are already in positions of leadership and involvement with various businesses, organizations and groups here in our community, across our State and even around the world!

YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS & OPPORTUNITIES

Susan Landis Youth Philanthropists

You are our future leaders. Young philanthropists can and do make a difference in their lives and communities. The National Crime and Prevention Changing Perspectives study observed that “If youth know that their community needs them, they will realize that they can be partners in solving some of society’s most vexing problems and perceive that their responsible action will improve their community and their own situation.”

The Susan Landis Youth Philanthropists (SLYP) is a Beckley Area Foundation program that was created in 2016 to honor BAF’s late Executive Director. This program provides opportunities for youth to experience the three pillars of philanthropy: Volunteering ones time and talents, raising money for the community and awarding money to worthy charities. Adult mentors whose personal philanthropy, fundraising and volunteer activities are notable, serve as leaders of SLYP.
All mentors are residents of Raleigh County and have served on either local nonprofit organization boards or advisory/fundraising groups for many years.
