Chairman’s Message

It is with a great amount of pride that your Beckley- Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce celebrates our 100-year anniversary in 2020! For ten decades this Chamber has dedicated itself to building a strong economic base for all of Southern West Virginia to live, work and play.

Think about what was going on in 1920, it was a time when for the first time, more Americans lived in cities than on farms. The nation’s total wealth more than doubled over the next 10 years, and this economic growth swept many Americans into an affluent but unfamiliar “consumer society.” And you know what? Raleigh County and Southern West Virginia grew and changed as well! Today we have much to celebrate, Raleigh County is looked at as the Hub of Commerce in Southern West Virginia and is a great place to live and raise a family. We get to enjoy four distinct seasons offering an array of activities for all ages both indoor and outdoor. We have snow skiing, golf, overlooks with hiking trails, and outdoor theatre presentations.

If parks are your thing, we’ve got several to choose from that offer everything from camping, fishing, swimming and boating to educational museums or an actual Exhibition Coal Mine. Raleigh County is also the Hub of Healthcare in Southern West Virginia.

We are the home of three large regional hospitals – Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Raleigh General Hospital & the Veterans Administration Hospital. Each of these fine Hospitals are dedicated to bringing the latest cutting-edge technology of delivering healthcare to each of us in the region. Education is another major commitment in our area with as many as twelve different institutions of Higher Education. Students can study everything from business, education, engineering, nursing to learning how to be a qualified HVAC repairman. A great workforce is an educated workforce! In closing I want you to know that the Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce is committed to work with its members to build a better community for families as well as existing and new businesses. The Southern WV region is an area that promotes diversified industries, entrepreneurship, higher education and healthcare. Good schools, neighborhoods, and especially the people make it a special place.

Great things have happened in this area over the last 100 years and your Chamber is here to see to it that we continue that growth.
