President & CEO
Michelle Rotellini

Meet Michelle…

Michelle grew up in East Beckley on Foote Street.  She has many memories of riding her bike through downtown Beckley to visit her school friends, grandparents and her family’s business.   She attended Stratton Junior High and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.  She remembers when Winterplace Ski Area opened and says that other than the Crossroads Mall, it was the premier place for her to spend time with friends.

After graduating from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, Michelle began her career at Snowshoe Mountain Resort where she spent twelve years in Sales and Marketing.  An opportunity with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals brought her back to the Beckley area where she enjoyed a career in pharmaceutical sales before following her entrepreneurial spirit.

In 2008, she opened a homecare franchise that is still in operation today serving the aging population in five southern West Virginia counties.

Michelle’s next entrepreneurial endeavor was opening The Dish Cafe with two of her Aunts in 2013.  Celebrating its 10th year serving the community, The Dish Cafe offers made-from-scratch recipes using all-natural ingredients and locally grown food.

Michelle served on the Board of Directors and as VP of Finance for United Way of Southern West Virginia from 2014-2017 and was then appointed as Executive Director in 2017.

In December 2019 Michelle accepted the position of President/CEO of the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce.  Michelle’s work is centered around issues that impact business and the local economy.  Key areas in which she works include workforce participation, education and training, business taxation and regulation and community beautification.

Michelle is an avid runner who enjoys competing in community 5k and 10k races so definitely hit her up if your organization is planning one!  In her free time, she and her children enjoy skiing, biking, swimming and playing tennis together.

Information Coordinator
Joe Guffy

Meet Joe …

Joe Guffy was born and raised in the Lone-Star State of Texas growing up in San Antonio and graduating from John Marshall Hight School and then attending and graduating from the University of North Texas, Denton.

Before moving to West Virginia Joe began his career in the facilities management departments of various businesses including an office supply retail store; then a large oil and gas utilities company; and a computer technology support center all in the Dallas TX area.

At a time when an aging family member needed some help the decision was made for Joe to relocate to West Virginia.  After spending some time to get-to-know the wild and wonderful areas of this adventurous part of the country Joe and his family located in the peaceful community of Shady Spring WV.

Soon after moving in Joe began to get involved with community activities and formed a relationship with the local Chamber of Commerce.  After a shot time working on some Chamber projects a position opened up that was a perfect fit for a new adventure in employment here in his new home.

Now after 23 years as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce Joe has had the opportunity to learn about the history of the State and most of all Southern WV.  Joe has worked with many of the local businesses and their representatives over the years helping them make connections and promote themselves and their products and services.  Joe believes the work of the local Chamber of Commerce is crucial to keeping the community and especially area businesses informed and active in building a vibrant, sustainable and inclusive community for everyone.

Joe continues to live with his family in Shady Spring WV and enjoys being active in the community with church planning and activities at Perry Memorial United Methodist Church in Shady Spring, serving on the Event Planning Committee for the City of Beckley and enjoying the four seasons that this wonderful area of our country allows us to experience.

Sales Director
Denise Southern

Meet Denise …

Denise Southern loves people… talking to people, meeting new people, and introducing people to the Chamber of Commerce. That is why she is perfect for her job as Membership Development Director. A native of Beckley, she loves the area and has stayed here her entire life, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. In high school, not only was she remembered for her cool 1970 Chevelle, but also for being the editor of both the school newspaper and the school yearbook.

After high school Denise earned an Associates Degree from Beckley College and then pursued a career in insurance, first working for Mike Richmond’s Allstate Agency, and then moving up the ladder to become a Claims Adjuster at Wells Fargo.

After many years at Wells Fargo, she decided to start on a new career path and began working for the Beckley Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce in 2007. Currently, as the Membership Development Director, Denise is responsible for maintaining the membership and increasing revenue for the chamber.

A very active member of the community, Denise is a member of the Rotary Club, and served as that organization’s Program Chair from 2021-2022. In 2022 she received Rotary’s “Service Above Self” Award. Denise was also a member of the Beckley Toastmaster Club, where she served as an officer, and was in the inaugural class of Leadership Beckley. She is on the Board of AWAY (Advocating A Way for Adults and Youth).

In her spare time, (believe it or not she has some) Denise loves to dance and she’s good at it!  She and her late fiance, Tony, taught Ballroom and Latin dance classes throughout the area and performed for many audiences. Denise loves the outdoors and when not on the dance floor, she  enjoys spending time around our beautiful rivers and lakes. Denise loves her job and enjoys bringing new people to the Chamber. She plans on doing so for many years to come.
