Appalachian Bible College

Appalachian Bible College, West Virginia's only accredited Bible College, adjacent to the Crossroads Mall in Bradley, has proudly called Raleigh County "home" for over 58 years.  Throughout these years, over two thousand servant-leaders have graduated who now serve in Christian ministry around the world.  During the past ten years ABC has dedicated Anderson Hall, a new $3.5 million chapel/music hall; occupied The Servant Center, a new 3-story student center; and finished a major renovation of Pipkin Hall, the administration and library facility. Hoops Hall, a multi-purpose dorm capable of housing up to 60 students, is the most recent addition to campus.

These years have also included accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (North Central  Association, www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org) and the Association for Biblical Higher Education (www.abhe.org); receiving Approved Program Status for the Elementary Education program from the West Virginia Department of Education to grant Teacher Certification; and record enrollment.

Campus is also home to Alpine Ministries, a ministry of the College comprised of Alpine Retreats, Alpine Adventures and Alpine Bible Camp. The latest addition to the ministry, Outdoor Education, teaches students about the natural world in a beautiful outdoor setting. Alpine Ministries serve about 12,000 guests annually.

Likewise, the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center provides that same convenience of driving to a single location, exploring several different college and university degree programs, and identifying which institution will better serve one’s professional aspirations. Valley College

Established in 1983, Valley College has served thousands of individuals by making positive changes in their lives through education and career opportunities.  The Beckley Campus is located at 120 New River Town Center, Suite C and is nationally accredited by ACICS (Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.)  There are also campuses in Princeton and Martinsburg as well as an Online Campus.

Valley College offers on-campus certificate programs in Medical Clinical Assistant and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.  They also offer 3 online programs including Degree programs in Business Administration, Health Services Administration and a Diploma Program in Medical Front Office Billing and Coding. A six week CNA (Nursing Assistant) program is also offered on campus.  These programs are designed to cater to the unique needs of adults by providing them with the skills necessary to excel in today’s business world. Soft skill training is also a component of all programs.

The Medical Clinical Assistant program is a 10 month program that equips graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the healthcare profession. Students learn phlebotomy, how to take vital signs, how to prepare patients for medical procedures, and maintenance of medical records and the final phase of the course is an externship which gives the students the opportunity to continue their training in a local medical facility.  Many students are hired by the medical facilities that sponsor their externship sites. In fact Beckley’s MCA program boasted an exceptional 83% placement rate for 2013.

Students in the Business Administration program earn an Associates of Applied Science Degree. This program is offered online but has the added benefit of offering tutoring for any student who wants to come to the campus for help. This degree can be earned in 16 months. The online program affords flexibility to students whose commitments would otherwise interfere in obtaining their education.  In 2013, 91% of Business Administration students were placed in training related jobs. The two newest programs, Health Services Administration and Medical Front Office Billing and Coding are expected to be very popular due to the high demand in the medical field as well as the efficiency of taking the programs online from the comfort of home. But again, these online programs have the same offer of on campus help if the student desires to come in to their local campus.

Placement assistance is provided to all graduates and designed to assist graduates with resume writing, interviewing techniques, and networking with employers to obtain training related opportunities.  Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
