Opening Day

54th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair

Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center
Amazing handiworks from over 100 artists and craftsman. Come prepared to shop and enjoy! Featuring a Quilt Show & Quilter's Country Store, Live entertainment & good food. Come hungry and feast upon a variety of festival fare!

Coal Mine Tours - Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine - New River Park

The Exhibition Coal Mine is the largest and most popular coal heritage destination in the region and has recently completed an extensive renovation that includes a company store, visitor center, coal museum, fudgery and gift shop. The actual tour takes visitors below ground, under the supervision of an experienced veteran coal miner. Traveling 1500 feet beneath the hillsides of New River Park, visitors are carried along track, riding authentic "man cars" from the mine entrance, to old working areas of the coal mine and back. Stops throughout the tour explore the history of low-seam coal mining from the hand-loading days into the era of modern mechanization. *Admission to the Mine is discounted during the Appalachian Festival by showing your ticket stub from the Appalachian Festival Arts & Crafts Fair

Free concert will feature music by Lost Cannon Bluegrass Band and Shane Ingram. Lunch food vendors and farmers market vendors are nearby.

Ranger on the Rock - Grandview at New River Gorge National River

A Ranger led activity allows you to learn more about nature. Experience the superb view from the rim at the Main Overlook.

Annual Oldies Car Show Presented by Shade Tree Car Club - Beckley Auto Mall

Take a leisurely stroll and check out classic autos from yesterday and today at the Shade Tree Car Club's car show at Beckley Auto Mall on Saturday, August 26th from 9:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. This show is open to all classes of cars, motorcycles and trucks. Dash Plaques will be given to the first 75 entries. There will be 70 trophies and 5 Specialty Trophies awarded also.

WV Make & Take Craft - Youth Museum of Southern WV

Drop by and Make-N-Take a traditional mountain craft. The Youth Museum offers a rewarding and educational experience for people of all ages and interests. Kids can just drop in with their parents and make a traditional craft. Cost is $5.00 for general admission.

"Ride the Rails of West Virginia" Discover the Trains of West Virginia - Raleigh County Public Library

All Aboard at the library! Join us for a program that's traintastic. Discover the trains of West Virginia, design your own train whistle and create a conductor's hat to take home. It's all free on Saturday, August 26th between 10:30 and 1:30. And remember the library is your ticket to read.
